The percentage of child drowning deaths in public pools with lifeguards on duty is at 19%. Six people drown in pools each day in the United States.

Drowning is a silent aquatic public health issue that has many facets that needs to be addressed in our communities. Drowning occurs silently in our pools and it is the leading cause of death in children ages 1 to 4 years old. My hope is that people will read this article and it will cause positive discussion among the aquatic industry.
